SUMMER WORK FOR AP BIOLOGY

Dear AP Biology Student:

Advanced Placement Biology is a course designed to be the equivalent of a college introductory course usually taken by biology majors during their first year.  A qualified AP Biology student is one that is highly motivated, is academically oriented, has excellent study skills and reading abilities, and views learning as a journey rather than an obligation.
Because the exam is in mid-May, I require that students complete summer reading requirements prior to the start of school.  This is necessary to ensure that all topics are addressed to fully prepare you for the AP exam.  The following chapters should be read and a typed outline of each chapter should be done. This must be in standard outline format, not just a list of terms or bullets.  An exam covering the material in these chapters will occur on the fourth day of school.
Chapter 1. Introduction:  Themes in the study of life
Chapter 50 An Introduction to Ecology and the Biosphere
        Chapter 51 Behavioral Biology
        Chapter 53 Community Ecology
        Chapter 54 Ecosystems
      Chapter 55 Conservation Biology

Each student should hand in ORIGINAL, NON- IDENTICAL work.  Copied work will be considered as plagarism and will result in an automatic zero, and disciplinary action will be taken. This assignment is due the first day of class in September and will count as a test grade.  There is no late acceptance for this assignment if it is not done the first day of class you will receive a zero.
