English 11 American Literature

Course Description:

This is a junior, C2 level course designed to introduce students to famous American authors from the Creation stories to present day authors.  We will be reading literature ranging from the Native Americans to contemporary authors.  Students will improve writing skills as well as develop their own learning strategies.

Course Expectations:

1. Come prepared.  I will supply you with a 3 ring binder that will stay in the room.  Bring a pen or pencil to class, forgetfulness will result in point deduction.

2.  Keep your work!  EVERYTHING that is given to you must go into the binder.  You will be graded based upon the completeness and neatness of your binder.  I only give out ONE copy.

3.  Homework.  You cannot pass this class without doing homework.  I make an effort to give you class time to finish work, but sometimes that is not possible; therefore you must complete the work on your own time.

4.  Absent.  If you are absent it is up to you to get the missing work.  I WILL NOT hunt you down or remind you.  You are a junior, an upperclassman, and with that comes more responsibility.

5.  Help is available after school and will work with you to arrange a time.

6.  Accountability.  Ultimately you are responsible for yourself.  It is not my fault, your parent's or your best friend's fault that you did or did not complete the work.  I will hold you accountable for your actions, positive and negative.
