I expect every student to do ALL of the above to ensure success in this class!!

Class Format

Each class will usually follow this format:
Basic skills quiz
Homework questions
Topic exploration
Topic discussion and note taking
Practice

Grading:

Quizzes 30%
Labs 30%
Exams 40%

QUIZZES are given at the beginning of every class and consist of problems similar to those on the assigned homework.  Homework is not collected but points will be taken off the quiz if you do not have your homework completed.  If you do not do the homework you will not do well on the quizzes.   If you miss a quiz/homework it does not need to be made up.

EXAMS are usually given at the end of a chapter but there will also be occasional mid-chapter exams.  There will also be a mid-term and final exam.

LABS are assigned throughout the quarter and are completed outside of class.

Homework assignments and exam dates are posted on the website.

Make-up Policy:

All students are responsible for missed work due to illness or school activities. Missed exams and assignments must be made up after school or during a study hall, not during class. If you are absent, it is your responsibility to ask me or look at the website to find out what assignments were missed and arrange a time for make-up exams if necessary. Students have five school days from the day absent to turn in missed assignments or take exams. Each day after this the student is deducted 10% of the total score. When an absence is unexcused, missed work will be given a zero and cannot be made up (including tests or quizzes).

Materials Needed:
calculator:  It is necessary to have a TI-83 calculator for use in class and on homework.  Please put your name on your calculator so it can be identified if lost.  If you do not have a TI-83 you must bring another calculator to class.  I do not lend out calculators for use on quizzes and exams.

Binder:  Please use a three ring binder for note taking and to keep handouts in chronological order.

Pencils:  Please use a pencil on quizzes, exams and labs.  Assignments must be neat and legible (no scribbling out mistakes made in pen)!

Keep this handout in your notebook!  You will need to refer to it throughout the school year.
