TECH PREP PROGRAM
The Martha's Vineyard Re-gional High School has in-corpo-rated a two plus two pro-gram with the community colleges across the state. Tech Prep is a sequence of study be-gin-ning in the junior year of high school which contin-ues through at least two years of post-second-ary occupa-tion-al edu-ca-tion. This program paral-lels the college prep course of study, and presents an alter-na-tive to gen-eral edu-ca-tion by pre-par-ing stu-dents for high skill technical occu-pa-tions. After com-ple-tion of the strong aca-demic and tech-nical programs in high school, tech prep stu-dents should be well pre-pared to con-tinue their tech-nical edu-ca-tion at a two year col-lege to acquire an as-sociate degree, pur-sue a bacca-laureate degree at a four year col-lege, or enter full-time em-ploy-ment in their cho-sen field.
Tech Prep of-fers stu-dents a positive learn-ing experience that fosters personal confi-dence and self-esteem. Stu-dents choose from a list of specific pro-grams, which allow them to dis-cov-er and develop their talents in their ca-reer field. Martha's Vine-yard Re-gional High School is di-rectly affil-iated with Cape Cod Commu-nity Col-lege, Massachusetts Bay Community College and Baron Institute of Technology. With Tech Prep at any community college such as Cape Cod Com-munity Col-lege a stu-dent is ready to enter the work force well pre-pared for highly skilled, high-ly-paid jobs. Stu-dents also have a head start in related de-gree pro-grams should they choose to contin-ue their education.
All Tech Prep courses are activity based with high standards that emphasize applied academ-ics, critical thinking, and problem solv-ing related to the real world. A Tech Prep stu-dent can earn up to 12 college cred-its while still at-tending high school. These credits cost the student and his or her family nothing. The current Tech Prep programs offered at Martha's Vineyard Regional High School are: Computer Informa-tion Systems; Construction Technolo-gy; Food Service Man-age-ment; Man-agement Technol-ogy; and Office Tech-nology.
