Bienvenidos  alumnos. I’ve prepared a packet for you to review so that you will know what my expectations are for your attitude and performance. As many of you are considering a trip to Spain in the future, it is important that you understand the importance acheiving a high standard of knowledge of Spanish this year. All students taking español 3 intensive are expected to master certain minimum requirements to acheive positive grades.

After you review this packet and complete next week’s verbal/written/auditory qualification tests, I will know what your level of knowledge is and recommend that you continue with this class or if you should transfer out down in the guidance office.

Please don’t delay transferring out of class if you feel that the difficulty level of this course is too hard for you, because the longer that you wait will limit the opportunities available for you to get into an alternative class which you prefer.

Included in this packet:

vocabulary for the year

verb conjugations: Present, Preterit, Imperfect, Present Progressive, Regular Subjunctive,

direct and indirect object pronouns, subject pronouns

articles, conjunctions, salutations and greetings

class rules, performance expectations, grading and assessments

class rules

1) Be nice to everyone. Learn to work with people despite differences. We are all different, but have more in common than we know. Make class discussions an opportunity to build greater understanding of others and similarities. Focus on positive attributes in others and compliment classmates for the good things that they do in and outside of class. A positive classroom environment makes people more comfortable to take a chance and speak up in Spanish. It's awkward at first.

2) It’s o.k. to sound funny and make mistakes. It brings humor to our class and helps time pass by easier.

3) Bring your own pen/pencil to class. Come prepared to read from your book or packetg and to write.

4) ONLY 5 minutes on the pass. If you go over, you will be marked tardy. Arrive to class and seated before bell rings.
I can’t be interrupted and go back over items. You are becoming young adults and need to be responsible.

5) If you get really hungry or tired or feel sick, please raise your hand and let me know.

6) Don’t say the swear words that tick me off or offend other people. I absolutely expect people to treat others nicely even if you don’t agree with them. If you have trouble with someone in class, talk to me or your guidance counselor about the situation and we’ll try to help straighten it out so that you feel comfortable and enjoy coming to class to learn.

7) When homework is due on a certain day, it is due on that day. You will benefit :

30% of your grade by completing your homework.
30% of your grade by verbal participation, preparedness and attitude
40% of your grade by tests, quizes, projects

8) Read, know and follow all the rules in the student handbook and
remember, be cool, study hard, act your age and you’ll do fine with my class.

Hasta luego
