June 16
Final Papers due

June 18
Final Presentations

The projects will consist of the following components:

A written paper in French (1 1/2-2pages typed and double-spaced), addressing a topic on Senegal. Topics must be approved by me on or before May  29.  The topic must be specific and answer one of the following questions:

·       How has colonization by the French affected the language and culture of Francophone countries such as Senegal?

·       How is traditional African culture in conflict with modern culture?  In what ways does that conflict manifest itself?  Give specific examples such as in the music video Hijo Africa and the film Faat-Kiné.

·       How can a literary/artistic movement cause political/social change in society? (Negritude Movement/Harlem Renaissance)

·       What is the role of women in Senegal?  How is it different from the role of women in the United States?

In addition to the written paper, you must have a visual (PowerPoint, video etc.) and an 8-10 minute presentation.  The paper will be submitted in 2 drafts but I would be glad to work through extra drafts with you if necessary.

You papers and presentations will be graded according to the attached rubrics.
Any student who cannot present the final project on June 18 must do a make-up presentation on June 24 or will not receive credit for the project, which is worth 25% of your term 4 grade and will serve as your final exam grade (10% of the year's grade)
